Introduction
The Nardella Clinic wishes everyone a happy New Year!
For many of us, this time of year creates an expectation that we will restore or improve certain aspects of our lives. These objectives are always harder to implement than the original emotional inspiration suggests. The difficulty in achieving goals can be mitigated by paying close and constant attention to the subtle differences in the concepts of change and transition.
We are not going anywhere new unless there is some change involved. Change is something that is immediately different. The problem with change is that it may not be permanent. There is a strong tendency to resist and undo changes when faced with having to accommodate them. The larger the expected change the more likely it will be met with resistance and failure to last long enough to be beneficial.
Transition comes from some type of change, but it should be independently considered. Transition is the evolution from one state of being to a new state of being. In transition, our behaviour is consistently refined to experience higher levels of the benefits that were experienced in the original change. The reader likely knows where we are going now.
What is important is to effect a change that leads to a transition. This is what will lead to sustained improvements or accomplished resolutions. The overlying requirement is leadership. Do this quietly and consistently. Save your energy to deal with persistent negative influences as directly and efficiently as possible. Other people in your life will choose to join the transition or not. Do not worry about making their decisions. Let it be, as long as it does not interrupt your vision. (Kids are an exception and may require periodic intervention.)
Many patients come to The Nardella Clinic as part of a proactive change. They receive expert facilitation toward achieving and maintaining healthier lives. Most patients still come to the clinic after a negative health event that has not been satisfactorily addressed. The changes required are sometimes significant and make the transition to a healthier condition require more concentrated discipline and commitment. Success is harder to achieve the more that has to be accomplished in a given period of time.
It is important to identify the health risk factors that are particular to you, and to make a transition toward lessening the potential for negative health impacts in the future.
Health Bulletin
In December, Dr. Nardella attended the Annual World Congress on Anti-Aging Medicine & Regenerative Biomedical Technologies. One theme that Dr. Nardella would like to emphasize is the need to have a healthy environment for our brain as part of a preventative approach to improving and maintaining our health. This is typically under emphasized or not emphasized at all in the general promotion of health. However, the brain coordinates all organ functions.
Subtle negative influences on our brain's environment speed up age related diseases. This is due to a decrease in the amount of blood that is entering brain tissue. As a result, our daily lives may become more and more difficult due to degeneration in the brain's ability to most effectively run the body and manage reactions to our environment.
Examples of factors contributing to a negative brain environment include:
• Alcohol use and smoking
• High levels of stress
• Negative thinking
• Minor or severe brain injury
• Environmental toxins
Examples of actions to consider:
• Nutritional IVs
• Chelation therapy
• Nutritional detoxification
• Manage stress
• Decrease alcohol consumption
• Healthy brain foods
• Supplementation
Please consult with one of our doctors, if you are interested in promoting and sustaining a healthy brain environment.
Body Composition Management
One of the most important things that we can contribute to our body's ability to promote health is achieving improved body composition. Body composition simply refers to the amounts of lean muscle compared to fat. In the world of weight watching it is important for us to shift the scales toward focusing on improvements and increases in lean muscle compared to fat. We should look at weight as an important, but secondary measurement. Weight can be managed to improve over time. What may be dangerously ignored in popular weight management and dieting is our need to improve and increase our lean muscle. This is because lean muscle and the ratio of lean muscle compared to fat may not change as we lose weight. (A person may lose lean muscle through certain weight reduction methods.)
Examples of the ways lean muscle works to promote health are as follows:
• Insulin and hormonal regulation
• Higher level of proteins in the body that promote overall vitality by:
a. Increasing anti-body production and strengthen the immune system
b. Increasing white blood cell production and decreasing oxidative stress on the body
• higher metabolic rate and the ability to burn more calories
We offer a 12 week body composition program. Here is how it works:
• Initial patient assessment, establish objectives and individual program development
• 11 weekly sessions that will accomplish the following:
o Dietary changes o Establish manageable and regular exercise
o Cope with and overcome challenges
o Measure progress with bio-impedance analysis (BIA)*
o Create a successful transition toward a healthier life through improved body composition
• Medical Food designed to promote and support healthy body composition
The program is currently delivered by Megan Strocel, Patient Care Manager. To learn more about the program contact the clinic and a schedule a complementary overview with Megan. Regularly starting at $900, this program is now offered at a price of $825 until January 31st. To guarantee this price you just need to call us prior to the end of the month regarding a consultation.
*Bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) is the measurement of the resistance of our body tissue to an electric current. There is a high resistance (impedance) in fat tissue and low resistance in lean muscle tissue. Sophisticated body composition analysers use the technology to pin-point a number of health measures, such as percentage of body fat, body mass index and expected resting caloric intake.
